about Peter Ramsden

peterPeter Ramsden has more than 30 years experience in engineering and manufacturing industries.  His research project on the Theory of Constraints in 1991 marked the beginning of a long term interest in managing productivity.  The simplicity and completeness of the Toyota Production System eventually surfaced, and for over 10 years his specific area of interest has been Lean thinking.  Industry developments and business pursuits have taken him into many manufacturing companies throughout Asia, Europe and the USA, as well as Australia and New Zealand, where he has been able to observe and benchmark Lean initiatives with other Lean practitioners.

For 12 years Peter was the general manager of a company employing up to 140 people on three shifts, producing aluminium components for export to customers in the automotive, electronics and defence industries.  He has also held management positions from the shop floor to engineering and operations, and in these positions, guided by a Toyota-trained mentor, has worked to introduce Lean into operational practices.  He now works as a consultant with organisations wishing to make the transition to a learning, continuously improving, Lean culture.

Peter originally trained as a toolroom machinist, has the New Zealand Certificate of Engineering in both Mechanical and Production options, and an MBA from Massey University.
